Botswana: Yesterday morning, the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, in collaboration with the Botswana National Youth Council and Remmogo Organisation, held a media briefing to launch the 6th Edition of the Botswana Youth Awards.

This year’s awards which are slated for June 2023, will be held under the theme “A season for young game changers”. When delivering his keynote address, Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture and Area MP for Mogoditshane constituency Tumiso Rakgare noted that “in 1995 the Commonwealth Ministers forum held in Trinidad and Tobago conceptualised the idea of Commonwealth Youth Awards hence member states were mandated to host and reward the youth.”

Hence the government of Botswana mandated and funded Botswana National Youth Council to host youth awards. Rakgare reiterated that the Botswana Youth Awards is one of his ministry efforts to recognise and promote youth participation in communities, national affairs and beyond.

For her part, BNYC Board Chairperson Moitshepi Matsheng alluded that “Botswana is endowed with brilliant young people with a myriad of talents across all sectors; as such, these awards are a means of recognising and rewarding those who are contributing to the empowerment of the youth demographic.”

Applications for the Botswana Youth Awards will be online and hard copies will be available at MYSC offices nationwide from 1 April until 15 May 2023.

The 6th Annual Botswana Youth Awards will have 18 winners and 18 runners ups, and there will also be awards for Best Female and best male, which will be selected from the 18 winners based on their highest score.

Moreover, the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture Botswana urged the audience and officers to stay in tune with the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture and BNYC Facebook pages for more information. MOYGSC also launched their Sporty Friday on Friday, in which Meleko Ndolo is an industrious sports manager.
