Kulgam District to commission South Kashmir’s longest bridge soon

Kulgam (Jammu and Kashmir) [India]: After 18 months of careful construction, the Chambgund Bridge in Kulgam district, funded by the World Bank, is set to be commissioned next month. The 400-meter-long bridge is set to provide much needed relief to the local residents, connecting many villages in the area.

According to the official reports, this bridge’s total estimated construction cost is Rs 32 crores, which will greatly help the people of South Kashmir in their daily lives. 

The resident seemed happy with the bridge’s construction and will be part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL) project.

It will be the fourth tunnel on the Banihal-Katra route following the 12.75 km T-49 (the longest tunnel of Indian Railways), which was completed in January only in 2023. 

 Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat, Deputy Commissioner of Kulgam, named this bridge a World Bank ERA (Economic Reconstruction Agency) project and talked about the 400-meter-long bridge along with its cost, which the World Bank funded.

He also stated that this bridge is estimated to be completed in 18 months, and soon it will come in the process and give more privilege to the locals as it is a double lane bridge. 

The local residents have expressed their joy and appreciation at the completion of the bridge, citing the many benefits it will bring to their lives. The bridge is set to provide easier access to schools, hospitals and other amenities, connecting villages in the Kulgam district. 

The World Bank has been instrumental in the construction of this bridge, providing much needed support to the J-K administration. It has been a long awaited project for the people of South Kashmir, and its completion is sure to make a positive impact on the local community.
