Saint Lucia: PM Philip J Pierre pays tributes on death of journalist Guy Ellis

Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia Prime Minister Philip J Pierre paid his heartfelt condolences to the family and friends on the passing of renowned journalist Guy Ellis. Ellis was 78 years old at the time of his death. Ellis was a remarkable journalist who started his career as a young news reporter with the Voice in May 1962 and later became the Managing Editor of two big newspapers, the Voice and the Mirror, during the career, which spanned over 60 years.

The Saint Lucian Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, about Ellis, said, “Death always causes us to pause and reflect, and my memories bring me to our boy days growing up on Water Works Road filled with dreams and endless pursuits.”

He also prayed for him that he finds comfort in the body of work Guy has shared with the nations as a journalist. He also captured so much of this nation’s history for the future generation.”

Ellis succumbed to a heart attack, and he was with his family when he died, following which they rushed him to a hospital, where he was declared dead.

Yesterday, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information of Saint Lucia – Ernest Hilaire, also paid tributes to the journalist’s family and friends.

He also appreciated the work done by the journalist by saying that he was a skilful writer and editor who always maintained the highest standards of his trade.

Deputy PM said, “With the rise of fake news and the presence of information technology that has enabled anyone to become a journalist, Guy Ellis’ skills and attributes will be greatly missed. The Minister further commented that Ellis serves as a model for young St. Lucian journalists to emulate.”

The whole Caribbean island is in shock, especially the media sector, after the death of legendary journalist Guy Ellis, who will always be remembered as a person with Excellence.
