Zambia’s ruling party claims US Vice President shames opposition during visit

Zambia: The Ruling United Party for National Development has said that the Visiting United States of America Vice President has shamed the Opposition, who were Prophets of Doom over her visit.

Some Opposition Leaders had alleged that Zambia was being auctioned to the USA. They wrote letters and petitioned the American Embassy over the same issue. Some protested, and others vowed to protest yesterday but failed to do so.

However, during the joint Press Briefing with Republican President Hakainde Hichilema at the State House, Veep Harris said that her presence in the Country was about an independent understanding of the intertwined histories of the USA and Zambia and their mutual commitment to democracy.

Commenting on the conduct of the Opposition, UPND National Youth Deputy Chairman Trevor Mwiinde welcomed and thanked Vice President Harris for visiting Zambia.

“Firstly, on behalf of the UPND and the warm People of Zambia, We would like to welcome her back to Zambia. Her visit is an indication that We are back on the World Map, and anyone who visits Africa will have to make a stopover in Zambia. Her visit has also brought funding to the Country to the tune of half a billion dollars in bilateral assistance, which is unprecedented”, Mwiinde said.

Mwiinde then said that Veep Harris had shamed the Opposition, who had falsely alleged that she was coming to promote LBGT rights.

“Secondly, We have a shameless Opposition in Zambia. Yes, We understand that it’s quite difficult to be in Opposition to someone who is working hard like Bally. But the limit that they had gone of spreading falsehood over the visit of Veep Harris is disheartening. We saw how One Opposition leader wrote a protest letter to her, the other went and protested at the USA Embassy, and the others threatened to protest yesterday, but they failed to do so. She has shamed them as she clearly stipulated why she was here, which was to bring good tidings from our all-weather brothers and sisters of America. The Opposition should be ashamed of themselves, they should close down their briefcase parties and form Cooperatives so they access the unlimited funding from the numerous empowerment programs in the New Dawn Government because Politics has surely failed them”, Mwiinde said.

Mwiinde then encouraged Zambians to rally behind the Presidency of Hakainde Hichilema.

“Last but not least, We would also like to thank the Republican President, Hakainde Hichilema, for the tremendous job he has done in the past year, and eight months and continues to do. He found this Country in shambles and immediately hit the road running. The Visit of Veep Harris is due to the numerous trends that We have achieved during President Hichilema’s rule. We would therefore like to encourage all Zambians to rally behind him, and the UPND led Government”, Mwiinde said.
