Cape Town Games 2024 welcomes over 200 youth in Sarepta

Cape Town celebrated sports and community spirit at the 2024 Cape Town Games in Sarepta, where more than 200 young people gathered together, to truly celebrate the unity and healthy living.

The games were successfully hosted by the Recreation and Parks Department of the City of Cape Town on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the Sarepta Sport and Recreation Centre in Kuils River. The annual event of the year 2024 was a vibrant celebration of sport and community spirit.

As per the sources, participants from various areas have gathered to compete in friendly competitions across a range of sport and recreational games, including five-a-side soccer, netball, dibeke, dominoes, morabaraba and table tennis.

Considerably, 232 enthusiastic participants had advanced from sub-area level competitions and showcased their skills and sportsmanship at the Cape Town Games finals.

Youth present at the event were provided with the opportunities to develop skills and gain confidence. They were taught to compete in friendly competitions through the Department’s Youth League Afterschool programme. They learn to respect peers and foster dedication as they develop their sporting abilities.

Reportedly, beyond the games, the programme also provided a platform for participants to forge lifelong friendships and experience the joy of teamwork.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community services and Health Councillor – Patricia Van der Ross expressed that they are delighted with the turnout and the high level of competition was witnessed at the Cape Town Games 2024.

These games are more than just about competing and winning. They represent the community, development and foster a love of sport and recreation among the youth of Cape Town.
