Cape Town: Excitement for the 47th Cape Town Cycle Tour is ramping up, as it is coming near, with a flurry of activity. An ultimate guide has been introduced to world’s largest-times cycle race.
Reportedly, the two-wheeler race will be consisting of approx. 30,000 cyclists that will be tackling three routes, which will include the traditional 109km route from the Grand Parade circling the Cape Peninsula on Sunday, March 09, 2025.
The Cape Town Cycle Tour will observe Invitational Women’s race of 78km and the U17 Boys Race that will take off from Fish Hoek and will finish in Green Point.
For the consecutive three years in a row, participants who are looking for a less demanding challenge will take on the 42km route, starting from the Grand Parade to the Southern Suburbs and then will finish in the city centre.
Earlier, in 2024, the Cycle Tour attracted more than 10,500 cyclists from outside the Western Cape representing 46 countries. Cyclists from South Africa brought the overall tally to 47 countries.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that the Cape Town Cycle Tour is one of the long-standing jewel events of the Mother City and it is impacting the economy and destination marketing of the city, over the last five decades that cannot be overstated.
Smith highlighted that its growth coincides with a rising interest in outdoor sports, and saw increase in the number of people taking up cycling in the city, as well as growing sense of community around fitness and well-being.
Furthermore, it is an honour for the City of Cape Town to contribute towards the growth of the event over these years and they are excited to continue the partnership for the 47th edition of Africa’s premier cycling event.
To ensure the smooth and safe execution of the event, the city officials have provided support through the Safety and Security agencies, who are deployed to assist in the build-up to the event and during race day, assuring that both participants and spectators can enjoy the event with confidence, stated JP Smith.
Annual Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo will take place at the DHL Stadium and will kick Cape Town Cycle Tour week into gear from March 06 to 08, 2025.
More than 37, 000 people attend the expo every year. The celebration of everything cycling, health and fitness under one roof, of the Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo provides visitors with over 80 stalls to shop, where they can explore the latest innovations in cycling gear, pick up cycling souvenirs, race nutrition and get the best advice on navigating their race.
The expo will officially begin from 9:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 06, 2025. It will also operate from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 07, 2025 and will run until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 08, 2025.
Notably, entry for Cycle Tour participants and for children under age 12 is completely free, whereas the non-participants have to pay R50 to enter into the expo.
Free MyCiTi shuttle to ferry participants to the stadium for race pack collection will also be provided. The shuttle will operate from the CTICC from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
On race day, the shuttle will operate from 5:00 a.m. to take participants between Stadium, Thibault and Civic stations. The last bus is at 6:00 p.m. For participants who make use of the CTICC paid parking. The shuttle will run from the P3 drop off to the CTICC from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on race day.
