Cape Town:The Fire and Rescue Service of the City of Cape Town joined forces with the bikers to collect more than 16,000 toys for children in need, supporting the heartwarming community spirit of ‘Toy Run Cape Town’.
Reportedly, the team accompanied hundreds of bikers for the 42nd Toy Run Cape Town. It is an annual charity drive that collects toys for children, living in foster homes, orphanages and other places of safety.
As per the sources, those thousands of toys included plush toys, toy cars and dolls that were donated for the project drive. The initiative to support a great cause culminated in an event at Killarney International Raceway on Nov 25, 2024.
Furthermore, the firefighters of the City of Cape Town were overwhelmed by the support that was shown by several communities and have committed to explore the additional options to sustain such collection drives, throughout the upcoming year.
The team of firefighters utilized the Fire Stations as more accessible drop-off facilities.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that the firefighters heeded the call and noting this they opened all of the fire stations, last week.
Following this, Smith also asked the residents to request their children to consider this and donate some of their old toys. “And the generosity was heart-warming,” added Alderman for Safety and Security.
JP Smith added that they loaded everything into one of the fire engines and along with a group of the firefighters as they escorted it with the procession into Killarney.
Notably, Cape Town has come out in numbers, while the organizers will spend the next two weeks, in sorting, packing and coordinating the toys to the various recipients. Smith and his team is very confident that they have exceeded the ultimate goal which seemed so impossible at first point.
It is good to share happiness and especially with the ones who are in need. Extending or donating toys have grabbed blessings from those little hearts which is priceless.
