Cape Town: As a part of City of Cape Town’s ongoing efforts reopening plan of thirty-seven municipal pools has been initiated. They have ensured that the pools must be fully operational by the end of the summers season that will conclude during the Easter holidays in April 2025.
Reportedly, the City of Cape Town teams are working to address the maintenance and operational requirements to meet the goal and ensure a positive experience for all visitors. Further updates related to this will be shared as progress continues.
At present, 27 swimming pools are open to use for public with the remaining 10 that are still scheduled for opening over the coming weeks.
Considerably, the operational facilities are initiated for:

- Hanover Park
- Elsies River
- Parow North
- Parow Valley
- Bellville Central
- Emthonjeni
- Delft
- Blue Downs
- Kuils River Resort
- Browns Farm
- Lentegeur
- Zandvlei Caravan Park
- Muizenberg
- Wynberg
- Retreat
- Newlands
- Langa
- Kensington
- Observatory
- Atlantis
- Morningstar
- Long Street
- Sea Point
- and, Trafalgar
As per the sources, Mnandi remained close for two days due to water quality and is anticipated to reopen on Jan 08, 2025. The reopening of additional pools is anticipated according to a selected schedule.
- Between Jan 08 & 12, 2025 in Westridge, Eastridge and Khayelitsha that are anticipated to reopen.
- Between Jan 13 & 19, 2025 in Ruyterwacht, Strand, Manenberg, Ravensmead, Monwabisi that are subjected to electrical work by Eskom.
- Between Jan 20 & 27, 2025 in Goodwood.
- Between Feb 03 and 09, 2025 in Bellville South.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health – Councillor Patricia Van der Ross said that the swimming pools are more than just recreational facilities. They are essential spaces for the communities to connect, stay active and enjoy safely.
Ross added while they acknowledge some genuine delays in the work, they are committed to get every pool ready to the highest standards. She extended her gratitude and expressed, “Thank you for your patience as we work to provide quality facilities.”
According to the reports, some delays will remain due to the extended construction timelines and the December builders’ break impacting it:
- Manenberg Swimming Pool requires repairs to the filtration system and deck are under way.
- Ravensmead Swimming Pool due to supply lead times installation of the pump and motor was delayed, also the filtration work is in progress.
- Monwabisi Resort Pool repairs are completed but the reopening of the facilities depends on Eskom and has resolved an electrical issue.
Notably, the pools will be operated this summer as per the decided schedule, which is:
- Daily Operations from Dec 06, 2024 to Jan 31, 2025
- Weekends only from Feb 01, 2025 to March 30, 2025
- Daily Operations from March 31, 2025 to April 21, 2025
