However, the Mitchells Plain Town Centre Library has recorded 750 attendees in the month of March with Durbanville boasting 302 people in May and Southfield region with 200 attendees in February.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health Councillor – Patricia Van der Ross said that a significant benefit of hosting a career expo is that, it exposes mainly high school learners to their different career paths. They may not be aware of some of the career options that are available to them and an expo can help them discover new fields in which they may be interested in pursuing.

She added that by connecting them with industry professionals, they get a closer look at career options and they might not have thought about or got first-hand information, about what is required in the real world.

There are so many options and paths available and a career expo can help in providing a clear guidance to the attendees, said the Councillor.

Patricia Van der Ross added that the Career expos organised in Cape Town can play an important part in planning one’s career and future. The librarians have gone to great lengths to ensure that there are as many industries, institutions, organisations and professionals available at the events.

She expressed, “I want to encourage the learners to attend the expos when they are hosted at their local libraries.”
