Botswana: The commissioner of Police Dinah Marathe met with the political party representatives of Botswana ahead of the country’s impending elections. Recently, the government of Botswana announced that they would organize the nation’s general elections on October 30.
The Commissioner of the Botswana Police met with the representatives on Wednesday. The Commissioner Dinah Marathe assured the Political Parties Representatives that Botswana Police Service (BPS) is ready to ensure the security of the upcoming General Election.
The officials have shared several images from the meeting on their social media. The officials have shared that the meeting between the political leaders was a remarkable success.
They hosted a number of crucial discussions during the meeting, which made sure that the Botswanan organizations are ready for the upcoming elections, which would be less than 2 days
She shared that the elections of the country, slated for 30th October 2024 will be contested by a number of politicians and political leaders. The officials have shared that the members of the community were delighted with the organization taking the time to meet the leaders.
Commissioner Marathe made the assurance when welcoming political party representatives at Police Headquarters. The Commissioner highlighted that BPS is tasked with the role of creating an environment conducive to fair and free Elections by ensuring the safety of ballots from the polling stations to counting centers. She said providing security during elections is a delicate and important exercise that requires involvement of all stakeholders in ensuring a free and fair elections process.
Commissioner Marathe called on political parties to take the responsibility of protecting the solemnity and security of the elections, ensuring that they are credible and without any prejudice. The Commissioner further urged them to sensitise their supporters on their role during campaigns and elections as outlined in the Electoral Act.
She emphasised the need for political parties to work together by regulating their rallies including obtaining permits well on time to allow BPS plan and deploy resource equitably.
The meeting was called to appraise stakeholders in the election process to make a plea for cooperation and support towards delivering credible election.
