Zambia The member of Parliament from Lusaka Central Mulambo Haimbe handed over a one by three classroom block to Arakan Girls Secondary. The school has been supported by the army of Zambia. The organization has shared that the donation from the MP will accommodate 250 pupils.
The structure has been erected using Constituency Development Funds (CDF), and is part of the various projects being undertaken by government in Lubwa Ward of Lusaka Central Constituency where the school sits.
The classroom block will with no doubt mitigate the inadequate space at the school owing to the increased pupil-enrolment since the introduction of the Free Education Policy.
The Member of the Parliament, Mulambo Haimbe has urged the school to safeguard the facility. MP Haimbe, who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said government is eager to partner with Zambia Army on different projects in various spheres of the economy.
He said as part of the partnership, Arakan Girls Secondary School will be prioritised in the distribution of 700 desks to be delivered in schools within the constituency. The school will be helping her the students access to various facilities they need.
“This is aimed at enhancing the efforts by government to improve free education and we hope to partner with the Zambia Army on different projects,” he said.
Commander Zambia Army, Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele represented by Director General of Education, Libraries and Museums (ELM) Branch, Brigadier General Kennedy Sialoombe commended the Republican President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Force, Mr Hakainde Hichilema for increasing CDF and introducing free education policy.
He thanked the Ward Development Committee for considering Arakan Girls School to benefit from CDF.
“The handover of the classroom block, which is built using CDF, represents a major achievement in the efforts by government to improve educational infrastructure and provide pupils with the best possible opportunities for success,” he said.
Furthermore, School Headteacher, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Kunda expressed happiness that the classroom block will provide relief to the school.
