South Africa: The Chairperson for Corporate Service portfolio Cllr F Zuma, the General Manager for Corporate Services, Mr Sphamandla Mnguni and the representatives of Labour in the UThukela District Municipality went on a campaign visiting the workers at the Water Treatment Works.

The purpose of this campaign is to educate employees about the importance of respecting work, keeping time at work and working without bias.

This campaign started in the morning at Inkosi Langalibale Local Municipality and continued to Ukhahlamba Local Municipality. All municipalities under UThukela District Municipality will eventually be visited by the team.

According to Mr Sphamandla Mnguni, the main objective is that they want the municipality to return to normal, as the UThukela District Municipality is operating under an unfunded budget. They are also trying, by all means, to improve the situation so that the public will be able to get their basic needs which are water and sanitation provisions.

Another important thing that Mr Mnguni said is that they urge the employees to use the resources properly as this will help the funds that the municipality receives to work properly so as to help the municipality to get out of this situation of working under an unfunded budget.

He also revealed that they have cut down on overtime and standby for employees in order for the municipality to save money. Mr Mnguni then urged the workers to cooperate with them so that everything in the municipality could return to normal. He said that what they are doing has been encouraged by the MEC of Corporative Governance and Traditional Affairs and the Auditor General.
