Zambia: The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) has embarked on the 5th cycle distribution of Health Center kits. The health kits were given out to over 3500 healthcare facilities across the country.
The ZAMMSA has been entrusted with the responsibility of making sure that all the healthcare facilities are adequately stocked with medication and other resources. The organization has shared that they conduct the distribution of all crucial resources in different cycles.
During every cycle, a different group of health centers is chosen to supply the medical resources, equipment and medicines. As per the officials, the distribution of the Health Center kits is being conducted under the Last Mile Distribution programme.
The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency confirmed that they have effectively shipped 7,000 health centre kits. They have left from from the ZAMMSA Central Warehouse to all the seven regional hubs.
From the regional hubs, they will be transported to healthcare facilities under the Last Mile Distribution is currently ongoing.
Thee officials have confirmed that the kits are part of a larger consignment of 42,250 kits. These were procured by the Zambian Government through ZAMMSA aimed at strengthening the provision of primary healthcare services.
The distribution of the Kits is expected to take 3 weeks and cover all the facilities of the region. The distribution is being conducted simultaneously with routine deliveries of bulk assorted essential medicines and medical supplies.
The kits will be delivered to Level One, General, Tertiary, and Specialized Hospitals.
The exercise is poised to, to a very large extent, improve the availability of health commodities and enhance the provision of quality healthcare services at all levels of care.
It is expected that the successful distribution of these life-saving commodities will push the availability levels to above 90% at the primary healthcare level and 85% at other levels of healthcare. The healthcare stakeholders of the nation are delighted with the efforts of the ZAMMSA to support the improvement of healthcare opportunities within the nation.
