South Africa: As part of its learner attainment improvement plan for the 2022 school year, the Mpumalanga Department of Education will, from Monday, 27 June to 08 July 2022, convene winter classes.
These classes will be hosted in 135 centres for 24972 grade 12 learners from schools which obtained results below 70% in the 2021 National Senior Certificate Examination Results.
Teachers with outstanding records from previous years’ results have been selected to teach learners during these classes.
These teachers are expected to adhere to the topics and guidelines supplied and use text books, study guides, notes, previous years’ question papers and examination guidelines to close existing gaps and to prepare learners for the upcoming final examination.
All grade 12 learners who will attend these classes are expected to write the pre and post-tests in order to assess the impact of the intervention.
The Department will provide meals as well as scholar transport to deserving learners to enable them to attend and learn.
Equally, the Department has also organized 13 residential learner camps for the best-performing learners within the Province.
These camps are planned to take place for a staggering period of five days commencing on 26 June 2022 and until 15 July 2022.
“The Department requests the Provincial Community and especially parents to add value to these winter classes by providing support to their children and creating an enabling environment for effective learning and teaching leading to the success of the programme,” said MEC Majuba.
