Dominica: The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, greeted 3 cruise ships that have been performing well during the 2022/2023 Cruise season. Additionally, the stakeholders are pleased with the greater number of visitors to the island this year following an interruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to various stakeholders such as vendors, tour operators, hair braiders, and taxi drivers, the cruise season of 2022/2023 has been successful. Despite the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been 139 cruise calls as of February 28, 2023, which have resulted in 216,489 passengers arriving at Dominica’s shores.

A government-affiliated social media page shared a photograph of the MSC Seaside at the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth, along with a statement that the image shows the ship. The post also mentioned that the vessel has a passenger capacity of 5429 and has made five stops at the island during the current season.

According to the roadside musician, “This season was plenty good as many tourists came and visited the country, and I saw many people coming out of their specific ships, and when they reach Dominica, they come and show their love towards music by playing the drum, or guitar or sometimes by listening to my music. Many people also gave me tips and blessed me.”

This cruise season allowed me to meet and interact with new people; they came from different countries, and their language and culture differed from ours. This cruise season was not the same as previous seasons, and I got many customers,” said Local Hair Braider Darina Ambrose.

German traveller Marcus described the beauty of Dominica by saying that upon arriving, he and his companions took a boat ride to see the island’s stunning scenery. He observed that the entire island was verdant, with abundant forests and a rich variety of plant and animal life. He also praised the remarkable housing accommodations available on the island.

As per the reports, the tourism department has estimated that approximately 196 cruise ships will visit by the end of the 2022/2023 cruise season.
