Africa: More than 15 000 bay households are still using water carelessly. This was revealed by the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Honourable Senzo Mchunu, at a community meeting held at the Walmer Multi-Purpose Centre yesterday afternoon.
Minister said that the Municipality had developed a system that identifies households with high water usage.
He said that identified households would be heavily fined and have water flow restrictors installed on their premises.
The Minister pleaded with residents to save water and encouraged them to report water leaks.
Residents raised their concerns with the Minister. Top of the list was water leaks, perceived lack of urgency from the officials dealing with the water crisis, and the need for the community to be involved in more projects.
Also in attendance were the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Eugene Johnson, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Roads and Transport, Cllr. Itumeleng Ranyele and the Ward Councillors.
Residents are encouraged to report water leaks.
