Dominica: The Prime Minister of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit recently delivered his remarks at the opening ceremony of the BOAO Forum for Asia 2024. In his remarks, the Prime Minister touched on a number of significant topics for international importance.
The Prime Minister of Dominica has asked all the world leaders to come together to find solutions for the issues that the world is facing. The Prime Minister noted that they need to work together to address the various challenges that they are facing and build a prosperous future.
He advocated for international cooperation to attain peace in the world along with sustainable development. The Prime Minister called on the international community, to strengthen cooperation and solidarity between countries.
He reasoned that together, the international community can find more effective responses to the financial, economic and social crises. PM Skerrit acknowledged that several nations across the globe are faced with such situations.
“It is clear that sustainable development continues to be a pending issue for the international community.” PM Skerrit noted. He made these remarks in light of the high levels of inequality, poverty, and marginalization among countries.
According to the Dominican leader, gross inequalities between developed and developing countries exist and are widening. PM Skerrit further observed during the BOAO Forum that the unjust international economy is also being strengthened.
Further, he asserted that the burden of the injustice is being borne by the poorest nations. In the same beat, the Prime Minister touched on the issue of Climate change and reiterated the devastating affects of the same.
According to Prime Minister Skerrit, the effects of climate change threaten the existence of low lying developing island states. The affects of the climate crisis have continued to destroy lives for the people of the small island states.
The Prime Minister accordingly called on the people to step into the era of change. The people of the country can now have an option of continuing with the same patterns of production energy and consumption that are no longer viable.
He noted that these actions are expected to cause terrible damage to the environment. Alternately, the Prime Minister said that they can take a new path that ponders sustainable and inclusive development and with a long term vision.
The Prime Minister added that he believes that development will not be sustainable unless it is inclusive of a resilience agenda.
“The convergence of interests, purposes, and actions among peoples, individuals, states, and the international organizations is essential in order to achieve collective goals.” Said the Prime Minister
In line with these views, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit acknowledged and appreciated the role of BOAO Forum and the People’s Republic of China. He stated that they are in providing development alternatives for other countries on the basis of mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation.
He further acknowledged that the global initiatives promoted by the People’s Republic of China have created the necessary conditions to stimulate economic growth without harming the environment.
