Zambia: Mkushi Town Council has engaged a private company, Allama Cleaning Services to be collecting waste. The authorities are working diligently on ensuring that the city remains clean and beautiful.
The members of the community have shared that the community have shared that they are happy with the government’s intervention. The officials have shared that it is important for the administration to stay on top of the wate disposal in the city.
Mkushi Town Council Environmental Planner, Chanda Mubanga reflected on the that the volume of waste being generated in the Central Business District (CBD) and other high-density settlements have continued to increase.
Mubanga explained that the increase of waste is at a faster rate than the capacity of the council to manage. As a result of the issus that the officials are facing, they have pledged to engage a private firm.
The Mubanga was speaking during a stakeholders meeting on solid waste management in Mkushi District. The officials have shared that the members of the community should also join in the efforts of the administration.
She noted that the local authority has entered into an agreement with the company to help in refuse collection. This is one of the many measures that the administration has taken up to keep the district clean and pristine.
“We have engaged Allama Cleaning Services Company as part of our efforts to keep our district clean,” she said.
The Mkushi Town Council Environmental Planner said there is need for concerted efforts to ensure efficient and proper waste collection and disposal in the district.
She urged business owners and households to subscribe for waste collection services or risk legal action being meted against them.
Allama Cleaning Services Company Operations Director, Jonathan Kani said his company looks forward to working in close collaboration with the council in ensuring that cleanliness is restored and maintained in Mkushi.
Furthermore, Kani observed that the indiscriminate disposal of waste in some parts of the area poses a health hazard for residents.
