Mauritius: The Information and Communication Technology Authority (ICTA) donated personal computers to Caritas Lacaz Lespwar Solitude. The handover ceremony for the donated items was hosted on Wednesday in Solitude, Triolet.
The event was attended by the Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development and Training, Soodesh Satkam Callichurn. The other government leaders and high ranking government officials were also present at the event.
The donation aimed to promote the inclusion of more digital education for the students in the country. The officials have shared that Minister Callichurn made the keynote address at the handovr event.
He highlighted the importance of digital tools in enhancing education and digital inclusion for vulnerable communities. Further, the Minister also highlighted that these tools were important for the development of thee children.
He believes that thee inclusion of technology in the education system could significantly improve opportunities for children and adults.
Later in his address, the Minister also stressed that the commitment extended beyond donations of Computers, The government is also providing free training programmes in order to allow the people to attain skills for better employment prospects.
Th Minister also highlighted the work done by Caritas Lacaz Lespwar Solitude and other organisations. He noted that these initiatives were very important for children and adults to become responsible and skilled individuals.
This way the people of the country can contribute to thee nation’s economic growth significantly. “This event also marked a step towards broader digital literacy and inclusion efforts throughout the island,” he averred.
The Parliamentary Private Secretary Ramkaun also delivered a brief address at the event, He highlighted the transformative impact of the Internet on modern education. He discussed the various details of the support provided by Caritas which included not only providing immediate aid but also improving living conditions and offering ongoing assistance to those in need.
Further, the Chairman of the ICTA, Dick Christophe Ng Sui Wa also spoke on thee significance of the donation. He said that the donation was part of a partnership with Caritas.
The aim of the donation was to support their crucial work in aiding those in poverty and enhancing education. He highlighted that this effort fell in line with ICTA’s mission under Section 16A of the ICT Act.
The said acts focused on democratising access to technology and education.
