St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister and Chairman of CARICOM – Dr. Terrance Drew underscored the importance of unity and meeting as regional leaders convened for a special retreat during the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government.
Reportedly, the retreat, held on the sister island of Nevis. It was intentionally designed to foster open, focused and forward-looking discussions among Caribbean leaders. According to Dr. Drew, the setting provided an opportunity for frank exchanges away from the formalities that often accompany high-level regional meetings.
PM Drew shared the glimpses from the retreat on his official social media handle and stated that, “Today, my CARICOM brothers and sisters journeyed with me to Nevis for a leaders’ retreat, a setting intentionally chosen to allow for frank, focused and forward-looking discussions.” He noted that the quiet and private atmosphere created space for honest conversations about the pressing challenges confronting the region.
The Chairman emphasised that while plenary sessions and official ceremonies are integral to the CARICOM process, then meaningful progress often takes place in more intimate settings. He marked that, “Sometimes the most meaningful progress happens not under bright lights, but around the table in honest conversation.”
The retreat formed part of the broader activities marking the milestone 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government. The gathering continues to shape the strategic direction of the Caribbean Community. Key regional issues on the agenda include economic resilience, climate adaptation, regional security, food and energy sustainability, and deepening integration among Member States.
Dr. Drew reaffirmed the Community’s shared commitment to unity of purpose and clarity of action, stressing that collective leadership remains vital in navigating global uncertainties and advancing the Caribbean’s development priorities. Ahead of their departure to Nevis, regional leaders were captured in a series of photographs, elegantly dressed in white, symbolising solidarity and shared vision.
