Kenya: Stakeholders convene for Green Zones Project Phase-III Environmental and Social Impact Assessment. The Senior Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests – Zipporah Toroitich, officially opened a stakeholder workshop on the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed Green Zones Development Support Project Phase-III in Naivasha.
Reportedly, the forum brought together key stakeholders from the Mau Conservancy for a public participation meeting. The gathering was held with the aim at evaluating the environmental and social implications of afforestation and reforestation activities within the Mau Ecosystem.
The engagement provided an important platform for stakeholders to share views, concerns and recommendations that will help in shaping the project’s design and implementation.
In her remarks, Toroitich expressed pride in the achievements and realised under the Green Zones Development Support Project. This highlighted its significant contribution to environmental restoration and community empowerment through poverty reduction initiatives.
The Project Manager – Jerome Mwanzia, echoed these sentiments during a detailed presentation that showcased the positive impact of the project on local livelihoods and sustainable development. The public participation process was guided by the Forest Conservation and Management Act and the Environmental Management and Coordination Act. This underscored the importance of stakeholder involvement in ensuring project ownership, transparency and long-term sustainability.
The workshop was attended by representatives from NGAO, County Governments, Community Forest Associations, NEMA, KWS, WWF, KEFRI, KTDA, sawmillers, flower farms, youth groups and other key stakeholders, who committed to the conservation and restoration of the Mau Ecosystem.
Recently, corporate services directorate held a consultative meeting. Staff from the Corporate Services directorate have engaged in a consultative meeting to evaluate performance and strategize for the upcoming 2026-27 Financial Year.
The team leader Senior Manager – Lucy Kiboi, observed that there is need to enhance service delivery through well-articulated Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, Assessment and Learning. She also emphasised the need to have regular meetings to improve productivity through close monitoring of directorate activities.
The HR Manager – Patrick Tialal noted that the recently approved HR instruments would improve staff performance due to well streamlined HR structure. He added that digitisation of HR processes such as staff appraisals were expected to boost efficiency.
The ICT Manager – Stephen Cheboi explained that the process of digitising various Forestry processes is expected to continue supporting the ease of doing business.
