Gaborone City Council (GCC) joined forces with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism to partake in a clean-up campaign at Main Mall. The clean up initiative is being held to commemorate the completion of one year since the launch of the Gaborone City Tourism Initiative.
The Gaborone City Council has shared some images from the event on their social media and highlighted the importance of the initiative. The capital city council has been working diligently to promote tourism related arrivals in Gaborone significantly.
The Mayor of Gaborone City Oarabile Motlaleng has come forward to appreciate and applaud the Ministry for choosing Main Mall to organise the clean up initiative. The administrator of Gaborone highlighted that emphasising that as Botswana’s capital and national heart, Gaborone must remain clean, safe, attractive and habitable.
The Mayor described Main Mall as more than a commercial centre for the city of Gaborone. He spoke about the significance of the Main Mall in the city and highlighted that it is a cultural and historical landmark that tells part of Botswana’s story.”
Acting Permanent Secretary Neo Sebolao also spoke on the cleanup initiative and highlighted that tourism is not only about attracting visitors. It is also about creating destinations that people want to experience, explore and return to.
She also asserted that a clean city is an asset for the tourism sector of the country as well as the local economy which gets stimulated by tourism related transactions. The making the upkeep of beautiful Gaborone a shared responsibility.
The initiative brought together Government departments, the business community and other stakeholders operating in and around Main Mall, reinforcing the message that a clean, vibrant and tourism-ready Gaborone is everyone’s responsibility.
