Premier of the Free State Provincial Government MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae has asked churches across the province to support the government in dealing with social ills that are prevalent in the country. The Premier highlighted that the partnership between the government and the church can become beneficial for the province.
The Premier made the remarks during the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa 2026 Regional Synod Day on Sunday, September 6, 2026. She was accompanying MEC for Health, Monyatso Mahlatsi to the event.
According to the Premier of Free State Province, a lot can be achieved if the government and churches work together. The Free State Provincial government shared some images from the Premier’s attendance at the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa 2026 Regional Synod Day.
The Premier highlighted that sometimes, they have people who come to the province from other areas. They set up churches and promise the people miracles. These people target the most vulnerable individuals to gain monetary benefit from them
Some persons also target women with the aim of exploiting them and cause them harm with their intentions. The Premier thus urged the churches across the province to work with the government and put an end to it.
The churches can additionally help the people in learning about the various facilities and aids that the government provides. She asserted that the government provides school uniforms to students whose parents can not afford to buy the supplies.
Additionally, the government also provides meals to the children across the province making it easier for vulnerable families to send their children to school.
The Premier further highlighted that the church should help the families understand what the government can do for the general public. We need our churches to be the drivers of that message,” said Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae.
