Botswana: Botswana National Youth Council is hosting a youth conversation and training initiative for the youngsters of the country. The event aimed to encourage the youngsters to remain vigilant and responsible ahead of the Khawa Dune Challenge.
The initiative will be hosted for three days, starting on April 29 with the venue at Middlepits Community Hall. The next session will be hosted at Khawa Community Hall on April 30. Finally, the initiative will conclude with a session at the Gakhibana Recreational Centre on May 2.
The event is open for the youngsters of Middlepits, Kolonkwaneng, Bogogobo, Gakhibana, Khuis & Khawa. The theme of the event is KHAWA DUNE CHALLENGE: Unearthing Youth Skills, Talents and Opportunities for Improved Livelihoods.
During the three-day training and conversation initiative, the attendants will be able to discuss Youth Opportunities & Programmes. The team aims to sensitise youth to tap on their innate capabilities and take advantages of the opportunities available in their district.
One of the major youth developmental initiatives which is available to the youngsters in the district is the Khawa Dune Challenge. The Botswana National Youth Council is hosting the event in collaboration with Department of Social & Community Development, District Health Management Team and Botswana Police.
The youngsters will be able to reflect on their future and their careers. During the training and conversations, the youth will be empowered with life skills.
The aim of the exercise is to make them resilient and make informed decisions and choices as they partake in the Khawa Dune Challenge. The authorities believe that events like these often results in young people engaging in unsafe sexual practices.
The alcohol & substance abuse and gender-based violence are also some of the major issues of concern during the event. Accordingly, the organization is hosting the event to provide the participants with comprehensive Sexuality Education
They would also take the opportunity to discuss the adverse effects of Alcohol & Substance Abuse in the country. The initiative is being hailed by several members of the community as the right step for the youth.
