Botswana: Botswana Police Service recently conducted a two-week workshop on Investigation and Intelligence for security staff of Lucara Botswana in Letlhakane.

Botswana: Botswana Police Service recently conducted a two-week workshop on Investigation and Intelligence for security staff of Lucara Botswana in Letlhakane.

The workshop that started on 18/09/2023 to 29/09/2023 was aimed at capacitating security officers, amongst others, on the legal framework relating to the investigation of diamonds, security vetting and profiling.

Officiating at the closing of the workshop, the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs at Botswana Police College, Assistant Commissioner Dipontsho Pharithi, congratulated participants on the completion of their training and urged them to apply the acquired skills immediately.

Furthermore, she encouraged them to impart the knowledge to their colleagues who did not attend the workshop.

The Deputy Director further highlighted that the workshop was a partnership between Botswana Police and Lucara Botswana, stating that in-service trainings such as these were meant to bridge performance gaps capacitate and reinforce staff knowledge for enhanced service delivery.

Pharithi said BPS was committed to ensuring the safety and security of the peoples of Botswana and their property, saying that the organisation is ready to support any endeavours in accordance with their mandate.

She also noted that the workshop was the second of its kind, with the first being the one on Human Rights held back in August.

For his part, the Risk Manager-Security at Lucara Botswana, Dziilani Abel, appreciated BPS for the collaboration, underlining that the training was vital to Lucara as it would go a long way in enhancing the Company’s security of diamonds.

He said the occasion represented a significant milestone in fostering cooperation between BPS as the law enforcement and private sectors, emphasising the importance of knowledge sharing and skill development in ensuring the safety and security of important assets such as diamonds.

In conclusion, the Risk Manager said Lucara will continue investing in its staff development so as to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct, as evidenced by the workshops.
