Mauritius: The Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, in collaboration with the Mauritius Post Limited, welcomed, on Monday, 24 July 2023, a high-level delegation from the People’s Republic of China headed by the Minister of the International Department CPC (IDCPC), Liu Jianchao, at the Mauritius Postal Museum in Port Louis.
The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin; the Chief Executive Officer of the Mauritius Post Ltd, Mr Anand Ramchurn; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China, Liying Zhu; and other personalities were present on the occasion.
The visit was in line with Mauritius Post’s new vision of introducing digital technology into its core activities and revitalising itself through the e-post project.
In a statement after the visit, Minister Balgobin highlighted that Mauritius was collaborating with several countries, including the People’s Republic of China, which would provide post office staff with extensive training so that they could acquire the knowledge and skills needed to implement the ideas learnt on a local basis.
Furthermore, the Minister underlined that the second axis of collaboration pertained to the digitalisation of the Mauritius Post’s key activities in order to improve the postal services offered to the population.
For his part, Ramchurn indicated that the Mauritius Post Limited was making use of Information Technology to improve its services by, among others, making delivery of parcels more rapid and reducing existing inefficiencies through digital complaints facilities, parcel tracking and online payments.
