It’s the season of sports and FIFA is being hailed everywhere. Amidst the soccer fever, rumours are circling that a Ghanaian Witch Doctor “Nana Kwaku Bonsam” is claiming that he has placed a curse on Harry Kane of England’s team, not to score against Ghana at the FIFA World Cup.
And yes, this is a real claim made by the prominent Ghanaian traditional priest and spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam. He himself stated that he was “working on” Harry Kane spiritually to prevent him from scoring against Ghana during their 2026 FIFA World Cup match, held recently. Though he later clarified that he was not aiming to injure the player.

Before the England v/s Ghana World Cup fixture, Bonsam publicly announced on social media that he would spiritually disrupt the performance of the England’s captain.
During the heavily anticipated match, England dominated possession but failed to score, which resulted in a 0-0 draw. During the dying moments of the game, Kane famously missed a clear, uncharacteristic sitter that would have won the match for England.

Following the draw, Bonsam took to social media again to claim credit for the missed opportunity. He posted a video of himself, performing rituals in which he announced that he was officially “releasing” Harry Kane, so the striker could return to his normal scoring ways in his next matches.

Who is Nana Kwaku Bonsam?
Nana Kwaku Bonsam is a famous Ghanaian fetish priest. His name translates to “Devil”. He previously gained international notoriety during the 2014 World Cup when he made similar claims that he has used spiritual means to place a voodoo curse on Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee to give Ghana an edge.
While there is no empirical evidence supporting such supernatural intervention. The claims have sparked massive online debate and become a prominent piece of World Cup folklore.
What actually surprised the fans and viewers is that, despite a strong opening win against Croatia, Kane couldn’t find rhythm against Ghana.
