Zambia: The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to convey its gratitude to the thousands of fans that filled Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola during the Chipolopolo’s 3-1 win over Lesotho in a Group H Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga says the fans, especially from the Copperbelt and surrounding regions, turned up en masse to cheer the team for a weekday fixture.

“On behalf of my executive committee and myself, I wish to firstly congratulate the team for the emphatic victory over Lesotho to garner three points in our quest for AFCON qualification. We must now sustain the momentum on Sunday away in South Africa against Lesotho in the reverse fixture,” Kamanga says.

“We specifically wish to thank the multitudes of fans that turned up at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to cheer the boys. The ‘Kopala’ community did not disappoint on the day, but we also take cognizance of the fans that travelled from all corners of our country to support our boys in a weekday fixture.”

Kamanga says the job is half done and has to be finished on Sunday to fully count in the long and demanding qualification process.

“We should not take our eyes off the ball as we have an even bigger assignment on Sunday at Dobsonville Stadium in South Africa. The team has already set up base in Johannesburg after having left immediately after the match to maximize on time,” he says.

“We call upon the Zambian community in South Africa to turn up at Dobsonville Stadium and cheer the boys. We are also aware of travelling fans from Zambia that are expected in Johannesburg to support their team. We greatly value their support to the team and country.”

Zambia moved top of Group H with six points after beating Lesotho 3-1 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Thursday. Second-placed Ivory Coast, who have already qualified as hosts on four points, host Comoros this afternoon in another Group H encounter.
