Free State extends support to flood affected communities 

Free State: The Free State provincial government launched a campaign in order to save residents who were affected by floods and rains causing storms.

The Free State govt launched this campaign on December 21 in MangaungThe Member of the Executive Council, Dibolelo Mance, and the Director General of the Free State Provincial Government, Kopung Ralikontsane, also joined the campaign.

The government provided essential things to the community that were affected due to rains and storms. 

Moreover, the Free State also appointed a technical team in order to respond to the disaster. The technical team will consolidate a database and profile those most affected.

In addition, the team has been tasked with the coordination of progressive stakeholders such as government departments, businesses, churches, NPOs, etc.

Working with all humanitarian organizations, the Free State Provincial Government continues to offer food and dignity packs, blankets, and clothing from different donors. 

MEC Mance and the team started their outreach programme for disaster relief as follows :

  • Kopanong Primary School, Turflaagte, ward 11, where 57 homes were identified and 196 dependants were assisted.
  • The delegation then proceeded to Tjhebelopele Primary School, Ward 44, where 50 homes were identified and 131 dependants were assisted.

The Free State Provincial Government will continue to offer support to victims of disaster storms in the province through counselling services to the affected families and also by providing psychosocial support.

Also in attendance was the HOD for Social Development, who is also Acting HOD for Public Works and Infrastructure, Adv TJ Phahlo, as well as MMC Vuyelwa Jonase and two local Councillors Mosala and Majoro from wards 11 and 46, respectively. 

“We appreciate the contributions of all stakeholders, councillors, volunteers, business, and community members durong this difficult period,” said MEC Mance. 

Residents of Free State appreciate their government support, while some of the residents from Cape Town, South Africa, are asking for help from their government, too. 

“When there is just a minor cross wind, we always experience a power Centlec is boring. I wonder if I can manage to work in Cape Town because it’s a windy City; Centlec is failing us,” said one of the residents.
