South Africa: The Free State Provincial Government will be launching the yearly commemoration of 16 Days of Activism. The campaign which is also known by the name No Violence Against Women and Children will be launched on 22 November 2024 at 10:00.
The event is being done in collaboration with the South Africa Police Service. The 16 Days of Activism will take place between 25 November and 10 December 2024.
The theme of the event is: “30 Years of Advancing Collective Action to End Violence Against Women and Children”.
The aim of the project is to prevent violence. They want to empower the woman to foster financial independence and resilience. This year’s campaign wants to focus on addressing the root causes of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).
The organization is dedicated to promoting positive masculinity and gender equity in the community. The aim of the programme is to create economic opportunities for women and children.
The government of Free State and the SAPS are hosting the launch event together. The event will be hosted in Phase 5, next to the Sonskyn Satellite Police Station in Mangaung.
The authorities believe that the area is a GBVF hotspot as such, government is pulling together all stakeholders to prevent GBVF. The leaders have shared that the members of society have to come together and collaborative to end gender based violence.
The launch will begin many GBVF-centred activities throughout the free state province, will be led and officiated by the Acting Premier of the Free State, Jabu Mbalula, accompanied by the SAPS Provincial Commissioner of the Free State, Lieutenant General BB Motswenyane. Other senior management officials were also presen.
The launch will signify the beginning of several eengaging activities. The programmes are aimed at fostering community engagement and promoting peace. The activities are arranged as follows:
- Men’s Peaceful March in Mangaung Metro. The event will be held on 27 November 2024, starting at 10:00 AM. Venue and starting point: Hoffman Square in Bloemfontein.
- EXCO visits to the Alcohol Selling Outlets (Hotspots). The meeting point for the event will be Hoffmansquare to Small Street. Date: 27 November 2024
- Zamdela Sasolburg The event will be held on 28 November 2024
- Welkom and Qwaqwa. The event will be held 29 November 2024
- Peaceful March in Fezile Dabi District. The event will be held 28 November 2024.
- Peaceful March in Lejweleputswa District, The event will be held 29 November 2024.
- Take a boy child to Work-Different departments and municipalities
- Men’s summit. Venue: Mangaung Metro City Hall. The event will be held 06 December 2024
- Dialogue with Women with Disabilities. Venue: Ferdie Meyer Hall, Welkom. The event will be held 03 December 2024
- Men’s Dialogue in Mangaung Metro. The event will be held 06 December 2024 at the Bram Fisher
- Building, Bloemfontein.
- Men and Boy child dialogue -Boshoff, 09 December 2024
- Provincial Summit on Women Economic Empowerment- Koffiefontein, Diamodhoogte Secondary School- 10 December 2024
