Cape Town: The Community Arts & Culture Development (CACD) Department hosted over hundred young minds at the Cape Town Science Centre and celebrated the World Children’s Day on Nov 20, 2024.
It was a fun-filled day where 115 children participated and learned interesting facts about science. The kids aged between five and six, attended early Childhood Development Centres that are operated from the Community Arts & Culture Development (CACD) facilities.
Moreover, the fun activities featured during the celebration included a story-telling session with ‘Libee’ the library mascot. The event also displayed a puppet show that mainly focused on the rights and responsibilities of the children.
Kids present at the event also got an opportunity to play at the LEGO Workshop Station.
Notably, the LEGO play contributes to a child’s cognitive development that stimulates creativity and imagination. It also enhances kids’ fine motor skills and nurtures their social skills.
However, the main attraction at the World Children’s Day celebration event was all that is on offer at the Cape Town Science Centre. The day completely occupied with the activities introduced the children to Science and Technology and it is playing a critical role in building a sustainable future.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services – Councillor Patricia Ven der Ross said that she is incredibly pleased that the city was able to put together this event.
According to Ross, the more experiences that children are exposed to, the more layered their world view. She mentioned that there is no better mechanism than learning through play, especially for the ECD learners.
She added further that the human rights are the cornerstone of the democracy and children’s rights deserve to be treated same. It is very important that they should know what protections are in place for them.
Similarly, Patricia Van der Ross and her team encourages adults to do the same and make sure that they too are championing the rights of the future leaders.
