Kabwe: President Hakainde Hichilema is expected in the Sesheke District of Western Province for a one-day working visit today, November 16, 2023.
Sesheke District Commissioner Alex Namenda confirmed to ZANIS in Sesheke today that President Hichilema is expected to commission the Trade Training Institute while in the district.
Namenda explained that the Head of State’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to the education and skills development of its citizens.
He said Sesheke District has long struggled to grapple with high unemployment levels, especially among the youths, due to a lack of proper training facilities, especially at the tertiary level.
He added that this has resulted in people accessing the tertiary education services in neighbouring districts, which proved to be expensive for certain people.
Namenda explained that even students who are on the bursary component of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) found it difficult to acquire skills in various sectors as they relied on training institutions from other districts.
He stated that this also negatively impacted the district’s economic growth as it continued to spend part of its CDF allocation on bursaries, paying other districts to offer the services.
The District Commissioner said this is why the commissioning of the trade institute will go a long way in enhancing the education value of the district, as well as help in addressing high unemployment levels among the people as they will be able to acquire skills to venture into their own productive activities.
Since then, Namenda has encouraged people in the district to take advantage of the trade institute, enhance their education, and make meaningful contributions to the district’s development.
“My appeal is to the parents and the general citizen to take advantage of this facility to utilise it to develop themselves education-wise and thereby contribute to the growth of the district,” he said.
