Zambia: ActionAid Zambia has officially handed over a 1×2 classroom block to the Kamiminusi Community School. The classroom block was rehabilitated at a cost of K329, 000 for the people of the Nakonde District of Muchinga Province.

The school building needed t the rehabilitated classroom block as the previous structure had its roof blown off by heavy rains early this year. The students attending the community school needed the new classroom block as they were unable to learn productively.

The handover ceremony for the classroom block was officiated by the Nakonde District Commissioner Marvelous Sikapizye. He thanked Actionaid Zambia for coming to the aid of government to repair the classroom block

Sikapizye recollected that earlier in 2024, the Kamiminusi Community School had its roof blown off. He also highlighted that at the time, the district had recorded three disasters from three different schools.

The District Commissioner said that this situation outstretched the district’s capacity to handle three disasters at once.

“As my council chairperson alluded to, we had nothing at that time to come and work at this school, but we thank God for you for coming to our aid,” Sikapizye said.

Commissioner Sikapizye further urged parents to take advantage of the education policies announced by the President Hakainde Hichilema. He urged the community members to encourage their children to attend classes.

Meanwhile, ActionAid Zambia Interim Country Director Jovina Nawenzake was delighted to handover the classroom blocks to the school. He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promote educational resources and advocating for quality, gender responsive education.

Nawenzake said the commitment demonstrates alternatives that improve the welfare of the children and ultimately build their future.

She said apart from rehabilitating the classroom block, the organisation has also handed over 150 school desks to the school. The desks in question were procured at a total cost of K285,000. They also donated assorted reading and learning materials worth K60, 000.

The Director appreciated the local community for ensuring that the project was a success.

“Further, I want to extend my gratitude to community members here at Kamiminusi school and the nearby communities who have worked tirelessly to ensure the project was a success,” she said.
