Zambia: Lupososhi Town Council has a nnounced a budget of over K 611,000 meant for the completion of works at Nsombo Harbour. The construction of the harbour will help in increasing trade and tourism opportunities within the district.
The harbour will not only serve as a platform for business, but also serve as a welcome development in the overall town infrastructure. The locals are also happy to see the development in thee local infrastructure.
The construction project for the harbour has been in the works for several years within the town council. However, due to various issues and circumstances, the project was never given a proper go ahead until now.
Lupososhi District Commissioner Simon Mwenya announced the officials says the money which is under the Roads Fund, will enable the local authority to complete the construction of the facility that had stalled for years.
According to Mwenya said the funds will ensure the completion of the harbour within the community. He also acknowledged the role of the harbour in creating business opportunities for the local people.
“As you may be aware, this development will connect Chilubi, Samfya, Chifunabuli and Lupososhi districts and this in turn will bring about social and economic development in Lupososhi district,” he explained.
He stated that government has continued to allocate resources to provide citizens with opportunities, in a bid to alleviate poverty levels among people.
Mwenya explained that the Nsombo harbour which has been the cry of the local people for a long time will now be worked on.
“We assured the Zambian people that we have a driver who understands all our needs. What is needed is to have confidence in him,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bwalinde Ward Councillor Tyson Mwengwe commended government for the development saying the resumption of the works on the harbour has been long overdue.
The Samfya Town Council has been contracted to provide a dredger which will work on the waterway in selected areas.
