Zambia: Dyakanani Village in Chipangali District of Eastern Province is getting access to a solar powered water reticulation system. The donation was given to the members of the community by Innovation Africa, to help improve water accessibility in the village.
The village, which is located in Chief Mshawa’s area, has struggled to access clean and safe water for a long time. Speaking during the handover ceremony, Chipangali District Administrative Officer, Steven Tembo, commended Innovation Africa. She thanked them for supplementing government efforts by providing water to people in the rural community.
The media reports revealed that Tembo said it was the government’s desire to uplift the livelihoods of the people. “With adequate access of safe and clean water, you can now engage in gardening activities and earn an income,” Mr Tembo said.
He urged the residents to take advantage of the resource by using it wisely to better their lives. Tembo urged the residents not to vandalise the property but ensure it was taken care of.
And Chipangali Town Council Chairperson Maxson Nkhoma also thanked Innovation Africa for partnering with government in providing water to the people of Chipangali District.
“We tried to drill boreholes at different locations in the village and it was a big challenge. Your coming and your work has made things easy for us. It is a milestone for such a village to have adequate tap water,” Mr Nkhoma said.
He noted that Innovation Africa was one of the companies that has come on board to help provide adequate water in the district. The people of Dyakanani Village are delighted with the new development.
Innovation Africa Water Quality Specialist Benjamin Miti disclosed that about 300 households were expected to benefit from the water reticulation system.
Miti said the water was more than enough for drinking and other activities such as gardening.
Daniel Zulu, who is one of Chief Mshawa’s Indunas, thanked Innovation Africa for supporting Dyakanani Village with water.
“Access to water has been a major problem to the village for many years now,” Mr Zulu said.
