Police in Salima have launched a manhunt for unknown suspects who have been accused of killing two watch men.

Malawi: Police in Salima have launched a manhunt for unknown suspects who have been accused of killing two watchmen. The incident in question allegedly happened during the late hours of Sun day at Lifidzi trading centre.

The scene of crime falls in the area of Senior Chief Ndindi. The deceased victims worked in the Trading centre where they were killed.

As per the officials, The victims were found in the shops that they were working in on Monday. The two victims worked in neighbouring shops within the trading center.

The spokesperson of Salima Police shared the details of the incident with the media in an official statement. According to Salima Police Spokesperson, Rebecca Ndiwate the deceased persons have been identified.

Rabson Manja and Mussa Gangalamu were working as watchmen at two different shops within the trading centre.

“On the mentioned night, the two reported for duty and it was during the following morning that the owner of one of the shops received information that his watchman was lying dead at the shop, he rushed to the scene and confirmed the incident,” she said.

The police spokesperson also noted that the other watchman who worked at a different shop within the trading center was also found dead. The investigating officers believe that the motive for the murder was robbery.

According to the Police force the suspects had broken into the shop and stolen cigarette brick amounting to K1, 465,250. They had also stolen hard cash from the shop amounting to K3,700,000

She said preliminary investigations have established that both deceased persons were attacked on the head using a rail metal bar. The weapon was later left at the scene of the crime and taken into police custody as the investigation for the evidence.

Postmortem results from Salima District Hospital indicated that death was due to severe head injuries secondary to broken skulls.

Rabson Manja hailed from Namitete, Lilongwe, while Mussa Gangalamu hailed from Msangu Village Traditional Authority Ndindi, Salima.
