St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew visited the Basseterre High School construction site to examine the progress of the ongoing work. The construction work of the school is advancing steadily with visible development and is now taking shape as the project moves forward.
During the visit to new Basseterre High School, Dr. Drew was conjoined by the Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley and CIU Chairman – Calvin St. Juste on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. Their visit underscored the continued commitment of the Government to initiate major capital projects. This also ensured timely delivery and adherence to the highest standards.
As per the reports, the new Basseterre High School is a key investment in the education infrastructure of the nation, that is designed to provide a modern, resilient and conducive learning environment for students and educators alike. The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has remained committed to see the successful completion of the long-anticipated project as part of its broader agenda to strengthen human capital development in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Considering this, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew shared a video clip of his visit to the school, on his official social media handle. He said that there he was joined by the Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Geoffrey Hanley and CIU Chair Calvin St. Juste for visiting the construction site of the new Basseterre High School.
PM Drew stated that the construction is well underway, and the progress on the ground speaks clearly to the commitment to deliver a modern, resilient, and fit-for-purpose institution for the students, teachers, and future generations. They are clearly focussing and will continue to push this project forward with urgency and purpose.
Prime Minister Drew further expressed in the video that strong satisfaction with the progress of construction at the Basseterre High School site highlights the significant pace and scale of ongoing work. The project is being advanced efficiently to ensure timely readiness for students while generating substantial local employment and broader economic benefits.
According to him, emphasis is placed on the use of locally sourced materials, that stimulated the domestic economy. Beyond economic gains, the initiative aims to enhance educational outcomes by providing students with a modern facility that supports opportunities for overseas education.
PM Drew acknowledged the Deputy Prime Minister’s leadership and affirms continued governmental support. Construction milestones, include foundational work and upcoming concrete and steel phases.
Notably, the project also promotes inclusivity, with women actively participating in construction roles. It is funded through the Citizenship by Investment Programme’s public benefit option; and the development is positioned as a long-term investment that will benefit the current and future generations.
