Keerksdrop Rapid Rail Police Unit arrested two suspects for possession of stolen copper cable in Klerksdorp, North West Province of South Africa. Police officers arrested both suspects on Thursday October 8, 2026 under the operation Ukubuza.
During the operation, the unit also recovered the R132 660.00 copper cable. The arrested suspects are 30 and 38 years old. According to a statement shared by the unit, they received an intelligence regarding a white Renault vehicle allegedly transporting copper cable from Christiana to Klerksdorp.
Moreover, Police spotted the vehicle on the N12 and stopped it near Klerksdorp town. Officers shared that they ordered the four occupants in the vehicle to surrender themselves in which two occupants got arrested and the rest two fled from the scene.
During investigating the vehicle officers seized two white sacks containing 325 pieces of content wire copper cable, which weighed around 181.5kg. Suspects hid the wires at the back of the vehicle under a blanket.
Additionally, the arrested two suspects have been charged with possession of suspected stolen property. The Keerksdrop Rapid Rail Police Unit seized the copper cable along with the vehicle. Both arrested suspects are expected to appear in Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court on Monday October 12, 2026.
Lieutenant General Peter Arthur Adams, the Provincial Commissioner of North west also commended the officers for their ongoing efforts on managing the crime in the area and vigilance.
The operation Ukubuza officially commenced Thursday October 1, 2026 and will continue to next month Monday November 30, 2026. Under the operation organization will continue to look into crimes that are related to infrastructure.
