Location

Djibouti, the capital, has a strategic location. It is located in the southeast of the country on the eastern coast of Africa and the Republic of Djibouti, and between the trio: Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea, and its area is 630 km.

Known for a hot and dry climate, it is exposed to high temperatures in the period between May and September, sometimes reaching 45 degrees Celsius, while its annual temperature is stable at 28 or 29 degrees Celsius.

Population

The population of the city of Djibouti reached about 604 thousand people, according to estimates in 2012, which constitutes more than two-thirds of the total population of Djibouti with its six administrative divisions.

The city’s fabric consists of the Afar nationalities (a quarter of the population) and the Issa tribe, which constitutes the majority of the city’s population, in addition to minorities who migrated from Somalia and Ethiopia to escape civil wars.

By virtue of French colonialism for decades, the city was dominated by the old French architecture, and the French language had a great place in schools, especially those run by French administrations, in addition to Arab educational activity supported by Arab educational missions.
