South Africa: Sinesipho Dambile has won a Gold medal in the Men’s 200m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a time recorded as 19.96 seconds. Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike came in second place with a time noted as 20.09 seconds.
Athlete Sinesipho Dambile never really seemed concerned by how close the men’s 200m athletics final was in the final stretch by becoming the newest and perhaps, calmest gold medallist at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Living up to his billing as the fastest entrant at the quadrennial competition, the 24-year-old strode away from the pack in the closing metres and claimed his first gold at Glasgow 2026 in a time of 19.96 seconds.
Dambile composed facade that soon gave way to more lively celebrations as he crossed the finish line. Beginning with a wide grin, followed by some emphatic chest-beating and finally some joyous strength poses for the television camera and audience he triumphed the medal.

The South African Sportsman stated that it’s not about time, it’s about winning the title, and he did exactly that. He added that he has been looking for this since the beginning of the season, and he is just trying to improve from here onwards.
Therefore, Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike reached the finish line at second place, doing so in a season’s best clocking of 20.09 seconds, followed by Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor in a personal best of 20.11 seconds.
Also, Canada’s Aaron Brown finished just off the podium in fourth at 20.18 seconds, while 100m silver medallist Lachlan Kennedy of Australia finished at sixth-place to his Glasgow 2026 CV.
Well during the run, Dambile seemed cool and collected during the race, he admitted it took some effort to maintain appearances at Scotstoun Stadium. He said that on the curve, it was a bit hard. He further explained that he had to make sure that he stayed relaxed and made sure that he got the job done.
Nigeria’s Onwuzurike was one of the men who made him work hard to claim the title as the 23-year-old dreamt of taking gold in Glasgow. He was happy to wear the silver medal around his neck too. It wasn’t perfect, but it was good. He said that he is really thankful to come out of here with a medal and finish at second. Clearly, it wasn’t the show that he wanted to show, but it was still entertaining enough.
