Malawi: A 31-year-old Lecturer at the University of Malawi (UNIMA) has died in a fatal road accident. The incident took place on Monday, January 15 at Mapanga, Limbe in the City of Blantyre.
The police force of Limbe has identified the deceased victim as Yapikachi Msiska Kambala. The vehicle being driven by the deceased collided with an oncoming Toyota Hilux registered 53 SC 36.
The police officials have revealed that the driver of the Toyota Hilux, who was identified as Yotamu Mbale, has also sustained injuries. The two victims were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The city has been witnessing a spike in the number of road traffic-associated accidents. The spike can be attributed to a lack of sensitization for traffic rules, careless driving, illegal turns and overtakes. Such accidents have claimed many lives in various parts of Malawi.
Both the victims were referred to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for treatment. However, the deceased was declared dead upon arrival at the medical facility. The officials have shared that the other victim is receiving treatment as an outpatient.
Aubrey Singanyama, Publicist for Limbe Police Station shared the details of the incident and shared that Kambala was driving a Mazda Axela, registration number NA 8725. The vehicle lost control due to excessive speeding.
This led to uncontrollable swerving and crashed into an oncoming Toyota Hilux which was being driven by Yotamu Mbale.
Meanwhile, the officials have urged the people of the country to make sure that they always follow the traffic rules and drive carefully and responsibly. The people of the country have shared their condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
The students who were taught by the deceased paid their respect to him through their social medias. One social media user, Peter John Jr said, Always Your knowledge impacted on us shall speak for you.
Meanwhile, some friends of the deceased, who were familiar with the deceased’s family, said that they were sad for his mother, who has to bear the loss of her son. The people of the country have extended their support to the bereaved family.
