St. Kitts and Nevis commemorated the Labour Day 2026 and observed the ‘Labour Day March’ on May 04, 2026. It began at Patsy Allers Playing Field and moved through Basseterre with a line-up that kept the energy high from start to finish.
Considering the celebration, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew shared the glimpses from the event and extended sincere gratitude to the workers of St. Kitts and Nevis for joining the Labour Day March in such strong and unified spirit.
PM Drew stated that the Labour Day is rooted in the enduring struggle and service of the Labour Movement. “It has stood with and for our people since 1932,” said Drew.
Recalling the history, Dr. Drew said that the Labour Day March itself began in 1955 and it is through these efforts that many of the rights and opportunities they now enjoy has come into being.
The March has always been led by the Labour Movement from its inception to the present, this day belongs to every worker. This moment recognises, reflects and renews the commitment to the dignity, contribution and advancement of all, who are labour in service of the nation.
Adding to the event highlights, PM Drew mentioned that the workers of St. Kitts and Nevis showed up in great number, that their presence and participation across the route made the occasion truly memorable. Labour Day reminds all that how far they have come in continuation to shape the nation and providing service to the federation.
Also, at the Labour Day, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew along with other federation delegates and families of those who were honoured for the annual wreath-laying ceremony, gathered together. The honouring ceremony remained a deep significant observance that offered them a moment to reflect and to honour the lives and service of those who helped in shaping the path, now they are walking on.
Prime Minister expressed that their courage, conviction and commitment to the advancement of the citizens laid the foundation for many of the rights and opportunities they enjoy today in St. Kitts and Nevis. Their legacy continues to guide and inspire them. He said that as they are moving forward, they are doing so mindfully, with their sacrifice and with a continued commitment to serve, to uplift and to place people at the centre of the efforts. They remember them with gratitude and with purpose.
