Kenya: There has been a shooting incident at Kimogoro trading centre, Narok South Sub-County in Narok County, allegedly involving a Forest Ranger. According to police reports, it is alleged that a Forest Ranger, who is yet to be identified and who was on a drinking spree, shot and injured a lady bar tender following a dispute. The lady was rushed to Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet County in a serious but stable condition while the Forest Ranger was still on the run. The police in Narok, led by the OCS Melelo Police Station with assistance from the KFS Narok Office, are working hard to trace and arrest the suspect. Meanwhile, we would like to assure the public that this unfortunate and isolated incident has nothing to do with the nationwide recruitment exercise of Forest Rangers that will take place tomorrow, 8th March, said Kenya Forest Department. Furthermore, they added, "We would like to inform the general public, especially those who will take part in the exercise, that adequate security measures involving all security teams have been provided in all the recruitment centres countrywide to ensure a smooth and transparent exercise." Prospective recruits are advised to arrive early at recruitment centres as was communicated in the job advertisement and go through the paces as directed by the recruitment teams. Members of the public who will not be participating are urged to stay away in order to give both the recruiting teams and the recruits ample time and space to conduct the exercise. KFS has invited the media and other observers to participate in the event for purposes of transparency and accountability. The recruitment teams are also under stern instructions to carry out the exercise in strict observance of the laid down procedures that guide the recruitment of Forest Rangers.
