Uganda: The Tourism Industry in the Eastern region is organizing a three days Explore Elgon (Khulambuula Elgon) From 20ᵗʰ- 23ʳᵈ/Dec/ 2022, with the theme Culinary, Culture and Adventure.

The tourism press briefing was yesterday organized by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Mbale city council Authority, Hotel players, Tourism industry at UWA headquarters in Mbale city ahead of Elgon exploration, which will be headed by the Minister of Tourism Wildlife & Antiquities.

According to Mbale city mayor Cassim Namugali, while addressing the presser, he noted that there would be many activities, including the Wanelo challenge, the launch of the Elgon Trail guide book and the Unveiling of tourism products in the region.

Cassim said we are going to have Corporate Social responsibility to Nashibiso primary school and paint a classroom block, and plant trees.

He added, “The team will travel to Sipi falls for a Nature experience that includes hiking to three waterfalls, abseiling and caving, visiting Semei Kakungulu Heritage site and Mt. Elgon culture and History Museum.”

Namugali noted that this and others are aiming at strengthening synergies, networks and diversity to maximize the tourism potential in the region, thus the development of regional and domestic connectivity, which will, in the long run, attract large numbers of tourists.

Saleh Naminya, Director at Casa Uganda Lodges and Safaris, told Bugisu intellectual forum that the Tourism industry in the Eastern region is not balanced.

He said the Eastern region is getting only 10% of the total Tourists who visit the country because of the factors like poor road networks, which the gov’t only deals with other regions and ignore here.

Chief Warden Kiza Fredric UWA Mt. Elgon conservation area said that Mr Elgon National park has a Natural landscape for adventure, hiking through Mt. Elgon’s stunning forests.

He added that Tourists should know that the tourism industry is not only about National parks, but we have many restaurants here with local delicacies like malewa, take a coffee tour or experience yourself in the vibrant culture of the local communities in the region.

James Okware Senior warden Elgon Pianupe Matheniko Bokora told Bugisu intellectual forum that the explore Elgon will help them address some challenges they are facing, like insecurity in the areas of Karamonja, bad publicity, bad roads, among others.
