Zambia (Ndola): A Woman resident of Ndola has been granted a divorce after she revealed in Kabushi Local Court that her husband moved in with a widow and impregnated a married woman.
In this matter, Joy sued David for divorce due to marital disputes. Joy said problems started when he started dating a widow.
“He was sleeping with both of us, which led to me being very sick. We had to seek spiritual intervention for me to be well,” she said.
Joy told the court that even after she got healed, David continued seeing different women. She said recently, he impregnated a married woman, and when she confronted him about his behaviour, he beat her.
“Our families even sat down, and he accepted responsibility for the child, leading to our separation for two months.
When beating me, your honour, he tells me that I am not warm the way a woman should be, and that is the reason he goes out to sleep with other women,” Joy said.
But in defence, David, who did not want the marriage to end, told the court that they were having problems because Joy was fond of accusing him of practising witchcraft.
He said after one of their children developed a mental health problem, she took him to a witch doctor, who told her that he had bewitched their son.
“Our neighbour took us to their pastor, and he prayed for us and told her that I was innocent and was not involved in witchcraft, but recently she accused me again that I was the reason our daughter cannot conceive because I bewitched her,” he said.
When the matter came up for judgment, Presiding Senior Magistrate John Kabwe, sitting with Emeldah Masuwa, granted a divorce.
Family and Friends of Joy also suggested they get a divorce as confusion never ends. “No option but to grant a divorce because confusion will never end,” said one of their relatives.
