Zambia celebrated the 60th anniversary of their independence from the British Rule on Thursday. The celebratory events were hosted in several parts of the country throughout the day.
The events which were hosted all over the country to commemorate the day included wreath laying on national heroes. Several organs of the government also celebrated by flag hoisting ceremony.
The people who were part of Zambia’s struggle for freedom have called on the newer generation to make efforts to preserve the hard-earned independence of the country. Freedom fighters in Kafue District came together to host an independence day celebration.
The freedom fighters are proud to note that the country is celebrating the diamond jubilee of independence. They reflected on how the situation was sixty years ago and how it has changed since.
The officials have shared that the sixty years of independence are a proof the country’s resilience and commitment. The freedom fighters said that the resilience is a part of Zambia for the last six decades since they got their independence.
Freedom Fighter Valentine Mayaba spoketo the media regarding the struggle for freedom in the nation. He believes that the independence and peace that the country enjoys came at a huge cost.
He recalled that many people hhave lost their lives and made sacrifices in the struggle for freedom. The freedom fighters have urged the newer generation to remember the contributions of their forefathers and continue to honor the independence that Zambia has.
Teaching Service Commissioner Ronald Hichibilo attended an independence day celebration in Kafue District. While celebrating with the community, he highlighted that the day reminds the people of the sacrifices that brought this day its fruition.
The Commissioner shared that it is the responsibility of the youth to carry on that legacy. The freedom fighters and forefathers of Zambia were fighting for a prosperous, free and united Zambia.
The youngsters of Zambia should be grateful for the sacrifices made by their ancestors and forefathers who have shed blood for their nation. The people of the country should treasure their nation and constantly strive to make it better.
Finally, the freedom fighter called for tolerance in Zambia. He urged the people to let go of their personal biases and embrace the spirit of patriotism for the nation.
