KwaZulu Natal (Ottawa): Two men attempted to rape a four (4) month pregnant female in the backseat of a black VW Polo in Ottawa – KZN on Thursday evening.
A resident of Maharaj Road contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 08:28 in the evening, requesting assistance for the female. On arrival, Reaction Officers interviewed the woman, who explained that she was walking along Northern Drive in Phoenix – KZN when a black VW Polo with three occupants stopped.
One of the men exited the vehicle and requested directions to a service station in Palmview – KZN. While assisting the man, a second individual forced her into the vehicle.
They drove off in the direction of Ottawa – KZN and the males in the back seat attempted to rape her. The victim resisted, and the suspects dumped her on the side of the road. They thereafter sped off in an unknown direction.
The female sought assistance from a nearby resident who contacted the RUSA Operations Centre for assistance. The complainant did not desire a criminal case and requested to be transported to Phoenix – KZN.
Investigations are going on and Reaction Unit officers made no official statement on this matter. Residents of KZN seemed angry and asked for justice. Moreover, many people said they can only rely on Reaction Unit officers rather than on the South African Police Service.
One of the residents, Pravin Rambarun, said, “Keep up the excellent work you guys are doing at the reaction. We can count on you guys, but not the SAPS. Thank you, guys, and God bless all of you.”
On the social media page of RUSA, people are thanking RUSA officers for their work, and many are demanding justice for women. However, the baby in the womb is safe, and the woman is also out of danger now.
