2nd Southern Africa Regional exporters awards held at Boardwalk Hotel

South Africa: The Second Edition of the Southern Africa Regional Exporters’ Awards took place on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the Boardwalk Convention Centre, under the theme “Recognizing Southern African Brands.”

The awards showcase the achievements of the leading exporters in Southern Africa.

Since its inception in 2021, the awards programme has recognized firms in the nine (9) participating countries (Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zambia) for achieving sustainable growth, increasing export competitiveness, economic integration, and growing trade with the USA and between the Southern African countries.

Speaking at the prestigious occasion, ECDC Chairperson Vuyani Jarana said guests are here to celebrate four categories, namely regional exporter of the year, the buyer of the year, capital provider of the year, and trade promotion provider of the year.

All the participating countries have concluded their Exporter Awards events, and one award winner per country participated in the Southern Africa Regional Exporters Awards event.

The Executive Head of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Honourable Mlungisi Mvoko, stated

“We are all here because we share a common goal of advancing economic development while allowing the participation of small, medium, and micro enterprises as effective drivers of inclusive economic growth through the trade relations we have amongst each other and also with the United States government.”

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Eugene Johnson expressed gratitude to the hosts, ECDC and USAID Trade Hub, and congratulated the recipients of the award.

The Southern Africa Regional Exporters Awards is a collaboration between the ECDC and the U.S. Government through the USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub (USAID TradeHub). The USAID Trade Hub engages with all nine participating countries to increase sustainable growth, export competitiveness, and trade between these countries and South Africa and collectively with the United States.
