The Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism Conference 2023 was held yesterday (Wednesday), November 14, 2023, at Diani Reef Beach Resort & Spa. The theme of the Conference was “Consolidating Networks, Synergies and Diversity to maximise the tourism potential between Uganda and the Kenya coastal region”.
The Event has been a unique experience and platform for governments, the private sector, policymakers and practitioners. They have the opportunity to expand themselves in the tourism industry to network and partner towards sustainable tourism in two regions.
This Conference has been instrumental in strengthening bilateral ties, fostering close cooperation on areas of mutual interests and cultural integration between the two destinations.
The Event was attended by several delegations from the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage and Governance from the respective counties of Kenya was also present.
Deputy Governor of Kifli, Flora Mbetsa, commended the Consulate General of Uganda with the leadership of Ambassador Paul Mukumbya and the Kenya Coast tourism stakeholders for making the Conference significant and beneficial.
The Conference is followed by a series of excursion trips in the counties of Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa, respectively, offering them a unique opportunity to showcase their diverse tourism destinations, products and cultural diversity.
The Deputy Governor of Kilifi County is open for business. She also looked forward to the 3rd Conference that will be held in Uganda in 2024.
Reportedly, the Conference was also attended by the Principle Secretary from the Ministry of Tourism, John Ololtua. During the Event, he emphasised that Uganda is the number two source market of tourists to Kenya while Kenya is the number one source market to Uganda.
This Conference brought 250 tour operators from Uganda and 200 tourism players from the Kenyan Coast to consolidate on partnership and build synergy in growing tourism between Kenya and Uganda.
The Minister expressed his sincere appreciation to the Uganda Consulate, Mombasa and Kenya Coast Tourism players led by Kenya Coast Tourist Association KCTA for curating such a great initiative.
He also ensured his commitment to supporting such initiatives and partnerships to grow tourism numbers to the destination.
