Africa: Africa Weather Forecast launched their climate summary for this week from 04 to 10 of December, in which they reported widespread showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern regions from Wednesday onwards, most intense on Wednesday and Thursday over the central parts, coincidentally when severe weather is also anticipated over the Cape and central regions.
The second wave is expected to make the most impact on Sunday over the central and eastern regions through excessive rainfall.
*MONDAY AND TUESDAY: High chance of light rainfall along the south coast but accumulating to moderate amounts over the eastern Eastern Cape and southern KwaZulu-Natal both days, and light rainfall from isolated thunderstorms over the central interior today (Monday), including the eastern Highveld and eastern escarpment on Tuesday.
Cloudy with morning fog patches along the southern Lowveld on Tuesday.
*WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: A dry (warmer-than-usual) upper-air system is expected to peak between Wednesday and Thursday in the southwestern parts of the country, leading to a high chance of widespread showers and thundershowers over the central and eastern parts on Wednesday and especially over the central Free State persisting overnight into Thursday.
Shifting towards the northeast on Friday and precipitating the lowest rainfall amounts over the three days. The central Free State is expected to bear the brunt of the storms in the form of excessive rainfall accompanied by a low chance of hail. Elsewhere, there is a low chance of intense rainfall leading to flash flooding over southern Gauteng, eastern Mpumalanga, and western KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, but it persists over the central Free State for both days.
At the same time, the Cape interior has a medium chance of developing dust storms due to a lack of moisture on Wednesday and Thursday.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: Reinforcement comes in the form of a second upper air trough that pulls on the groundwork laid out by its predecessor. Most models agree on the high chance of showers and thundershowers in the east and central regions, intensifying on Sunday when only the far west will be spared from rainfall.
